ALLOW TIME FOR ROOTS TO BREAKDOWN
Depending on the tree stump’s species and size, it can take some time for the roots to decompose, which can effect future planning of the area.
YOU’LL HAVE EXTRA MULCH TO MANAGE
Grinding creates a large amount of organic mulch. You can spread it around your garden, store it for later use, or arrange for it to be taken away.
GET ADVICE ABOUT REPLANTING
If you plan to replant a tree in the same area as your old stump, there may be some additional considerations such as how low the stump is ground, bringing in other soil and whether or not you should wait until the remaining roots have started to decompose.
stump Grinding vs removal
Stump grinding shreds the stump down to below ground level, leaving the roots below the surface to naturally decay over time. This is a cost-effective and less invasive option for your property.
Stump removal takes the entire stump and root system out of the ground, which can be more labour-intensive. It generally requires an excavator, can leave a hole in the ground and usually adds tipping fees to the bill.
We can help you choose the best option for your property, budget, and future plans for the space.

stump grinding FAQS
-
It’s vastly dependent on the size of stump(s) and stump grinder used.
We have a range of stump grinders which all have their place depending on the location, access, amount and size of stump(s).
A medium to large stump can take 30mins - 60mins, some larger stumps can take hours.
A smaller stump can take as little as 30 seconds. Generally, we'll spend more time getting the machinery off and to the location of the stump and attempting to remove any rocks around the stump than we will grinding the stump itself.
-
Stump grinding costs anywhere between $50 and $1200 per stump.
Stump grinders are fairly high on maintenance with the cutting teeth having to be changed or sharpened quite regularly. This is an inexpensive operation within itself.
-
Yes, we certainly can.
Bamboo isn't particularly hard to grind but depending on the variety of bamboo, it may still require some follow-up grinding or poisoning as some species have an extensive network of underground running roots that will re-shoot.
-
Yes, but likely not all.
In my opinion, stump grinding should include (within reason) all above-ground or visible roots and the stump itself. As a minimum, we'll generally stump grind down enough to allow grass to regrow over the top without any troubles.

There are a variety of reasons to get tree stumps ground down.
The two most common ones would be:
to eliminate any potential risk the stump may pose.
to reclaim more space on your property.
Other reasons include increasing the aesthetics and value of your property, reducing the likelihood of termite activity near your house, making way for building works and replanting.
